Garissa Educationist has called for the postponement of the recently started KCSE national exams.
Prof. William Bukosa says it will be unfair to administer the national exams with the current situation in Garissa, arguing that there is no way the students who have not been attending classes as a result of the drought will compete favorably for the same position with students from other regions.
He also called upon county leaders to put forward the interests of their people, otherwise many dreams will be jeopardized.
“We know very well the state in Garissa County following the drought. The leaders should stop pretending and acting like there is no problem. We are about to record a very bad record which will drag the county to its feet,” he says.
He calls upon the national examination council and the government to address this.
“I respect the effort of the Education CS Fred Matiangi for his commitment to bringing sanity into the education sector and equality by curbing exam irregularities but this sanity and fairness will not be achieved if students in the marginalized areas are not considered,” he added.
“We want our children to do their best and produce qualified intellectuals but that will not be applicable for a Garissa child who faces threat of starvation and insecurity. The examination council should consider postponing the national exams until this issues are resolved,” He says.
