Edwin Sifuna, the Nairobi Senatorial seat aspirant that was fronted by ODM in last year's General election to square it off against Jubilee's Johnson Sakaja, just got a new morale boost in his political ambitions.
Mr Sifuna, a lawyer by profession and very much outspoken in character, was on Thursday picked to replace Ababu Namwamba, ODM's black sheep, as the party's Secretary General.
His nomination for the post comes almost a year after Ababu Namwamba had ditched the party in search of greener pastures that would later be his own political graveyard.
Mr. Namwamba, touted by many as Odinga's long term successor, lost his Budalangi parliamentary seat on a landslide margin by his opponent.
This came after years of onside affiliation to Odinga who was his political godfather and his mentor.
With the nomination of Mr Sifuna to replace Agnes Zani who was the acting Secretary General since Ababu's resignation, many are viewing this as a long term strategy by Odinga to find his political successor.
Sifuna shares the same liberal mindset that has helped to define who Raila Odinga is.
To many, this may seem like a surprise nomination since most people had expected that Odinga would seek to reward his loyalists with that seat.
What we can't ignore however, is the timeliness and wisdom of Sifuna's nomination to the post of Secretary General.
