Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has made an urgent appeal to Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Achesa.
Sifuna made the appeal after it was reported that Harambee Stars could move 'home' to either Uganda or Tanzania after the company contracted to make adjustments to Nyayo, Kasarani, Kinoru, and Kipchoge Keino stadiums left the country due to delayed payments.
"This is a travesty. Waziri Rashid Mohammed can you intervene and pay the contractors to finish the job," tweeted Sifuna on Wednesday.
A source quoted by the Standard further revealed that officials of Gregory International had given the government up to March 3 to make payments or else they halt any progress of work to the stadiums.
“The company wrote to the Ministry of Sports last month stating that if they do not receive their payment by March 3, then they would leave. When that day came and no payment was received, they left,” remarked the source as quoted by The Standard.
The company was tasked with planting grass to all the said stadiums and there are fears that the forthcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match between Harambee Stars and Ghana, scheduled for September 3, will have to play either in Tanzania or Uganda due to a lack of venue.
