The Institute of Women, Gender and Development at Egerton University has initiated a scholarship programme aimed at benefiting bright female students.
Speaking during the orientation of first year students at the institute’s offices last Friday, the director of the institute Dr Rose Odhiambo said the scholarships are meant to benefit students who come from poor backgrounds.
She added that the programme was in line with the institute’s aims of developing gender based initiatives to benefit and elevate marginalised people in the society.
“The institute has over the years initiated programmes that seek to promote gender sensitivity measures in our country. We hope this new programme will assist young women from poor backgrounds pursue their higher education at the university without hindrances,” she said.
Odhiambo told students who had performed well in KCSE but were in need of support to visit the institute with relevant documents for consideration tests which will gauge them on their suitability.
