The department of Animal Sciences of Egerton University has launched a research blog to host research reports and papers authored by academic staff members of the department.
Speaking to our reporter in his office on Friday, Prof Perminus Migwi, the chairman of the department said the blog aims at strengthening academic activities of the department, by availing research materials to both students, academic members of the department and the rest of the university community.
He further said that the blog, to be titled Egerton Animal Sciences Research, will also play a role in disseminating research information on livestock management in the country to the public and stakeholders.
“This is not only an academic affair but a general data bank on livestock management research materials that can be accessed by any interested party,” said Prof. Migwi.
According to the chairman, the blog will be run by selected academic staff members who will receive academic materials from other academic members of staff and edit before posting them on the blog.
He observed that the department considered the pros and cons of publishing and printing academic material while considering the modern digital technology trends and impacts among learners and researchers in the country.
“We think that on-line publishing is going to be the next attraction in academic publishing. We can easily disseminate academic materials to a wide range of users. In particular our students will be in a better position to interact with their tutors by accessing their publications through the blog,” said the don.
