Egerton University library will soon adopt a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) security system as a way of diversifying its management of information resources.

This was announced on Monday by the Nakuru Town Campus Librarian Peris Kaloki, when she presided over a Library Security Personnel Education Workshop at the library department’s board room.

The librarian noted that there was a need for the library to adopt modern security systems to add value to the library’s guest, to protect its information resources while also enhancing a venue for proper management of library services at the university.

She announced that the university management had already approved the acquisition of CCTV gadgets to be installed in key sections of the library including at the entrance, reading areas, staff working areas and outside the library building.

“It is important to note that we in the library are committed towards enhancing security of our information resources. To compliment on the work of security personnel, the library will soon acquire modern CCTV cameras which will be installed in key points of the library to enhance surveillance in the library,” said Kaloki.

She added that apart from mitigating on theft of library books and other information materials, the CCTV cameras will also alert library management on other misuses of the library including mutilation and mishandling of information resources by users, and also the staff-user relationships in the library.
