The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences has published a human rights manual that will guide teaching human rights courses at the university. The book titled: Introduction To Human Rights: A Teaching Mannual has been edited by Lydia Mareri a lecturer at the department of literature, languages & linguistics who specializes in Media & Communication courses. Marei is also a trained Human Rights Education Facilitator. The Chairman of the Department of philosophy, history and religion that commissioned the publishing of the book Dr. Boaz Onyancha, during the launching ceremony at the faculty today said the course would be adopted by other faculty departments across the university to become one of the common core courses. “The view of the department is to have Human Rights Course adopted and offered to all first year students admitted at Egerton University across all academic programmes,’’ said Dr.Onyancha. He added that the broad aim of the course at the university was to promote awareness of the Constitution among all Kenyans. "The teaching of human rights at Egerton University is not only historically relevant but also in tandem with current and emerging issues in Kenya, regionally and internationally." He further elaborated.
