Egerton University will offer knee operations to members of the public from November 20 to 22 at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital (RVPGH).
The university’s Faculty of Health Sciences in conjunction with the East African Arthroscopy Association (EAAA) and Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital will help conduct the operations.
Dr Paul Lutomia, the coordinator of the operation, said that the service will involve fifth year medical students from the university, members of EAAA, doctors at the general hospital and those from Egerton University medical department and senior academic staff at the faculty of health sciences.
“You realise that the costs involved in arthroscopy are normally very high and most people in the country cannot afford them. This operation is meant to provide a community outreach service at highly subsidised costs,” said Dr Lutomia.
He added that screening of patients is already ongoing at the general hospital and the orthopaedic clinic.
Meanwhile, Egerton University will on Friday officially open its recently completed funeral home to members of the public.
The multimillion funeral home, at the Human Anatomy Complex in Njoro campus, is set to revolutionise morgue services in Nakuru County.
