An Egerton University student who posted on Facebook that he is a member of Al-Shabaab militia group has been arrested.
Police arrested Robert Mungai at a petrol station in Nakuru’s industrial area and has been handed over to anti-terrorism detectives for questioning at Njoro police station.
Mungai on the same Facebook page posted that he will blow up the institution.
Nakuru County police commandant John Mwanga has confirmed the arrest of the university student.
Mungai's closest affiliates, who changed his name to Robert Mohammed Bluez, said he may have been bluffing and has no capacity to carry out an attack.
A classmate who sought anonymity said: “I doubt if he has even seen an explosive."
The classmate described Mungai as a serious coward and must have been enjoying the fame that comes with pranks.
Mwanga warned users of social media sites against posting information that may cause panic among people. He added some posts are very serious and should not be taken as jokes as the classmate claimed.
The commandant said that the country is still mourning a historical loss and anything tantamount to attack or any crime cannot be taken lightly.
Police had placed a Sh2 million prize on Mungai after he went into hiding following the posting of the threatening messages on the university’s Facebook page.
