Nanjing Agricultural University of China Council chairman Prof Zuo Wei said the elevation will also see Egerton become the only such centre in Africa.

These remarks were made on Thursday when Prof Wie donated books and computers to the Kenyan Agricultural University in Njoro.

The two universities have had, and still maintain, close collaborations in many aspects of academic and research activities that go a long way in benefiting both countrys economically while helping strengthen diplomatic relations.

While receiving the gift, Egerton University Vice Chancellor Prof James Tuitoek underlined the importance of collaborations between the two institutes of higher learning, given the growing international relations between Kenya and China.

The more than 300 books and 20 computers will be used in the university’s library and academic resource centres.

The books cover the development of Chinese knowledge from time immemorial to the present. This coverage relates to history, philosophy, literature, languages and culture.

“With this kind of resource base, Egerton is well positioned to serve as the centre of Chinese studies in the region,” said Prof Wei.
