Egerton University Nakuru town campus will on Wednesday hold a debate in which aspiring student leaders will get a chance to market their agenda.
The event which will be held at the institution's West-end campus on Wednesday will feature all contestants running for various positions in the university's students union.
Most students are upbeat that the event which comes barely two days before main elections will give them a chance to vet the contestants properly.
Alice Chacha a second year Bachelor of communication and Media student said that the 'big debate' would help her make the right choice.
"This debate will help me know who really is in a position to speak boldly and articulately before an audience because I don't want to vote in a coward who will not even express my frustrations," she said.
Her sentiments were echoed by Reuben Koech who added that such an exercise was seriously called for so as to differentiate between genuine leaders and those who are out to seek fame.
"We cannot purport to say that all these candidates are champions of students' welfare. Some of them are busy looking for fame in campus, therefore this event will give us a hint of what they really intend to do for the student family," said the third-year Bachelor of Commerce student.
The 'big debate' which was proposed by university's electoral commission will this year see an increased number of contestants after a total of four candidates were cleared to contest the chairperson's position unlike the usual two.
Other positions that are up for grabs are; student affairs, secretary general, vice-chairman, academic affairs, finance director, organising secretary and director of health and accommodation.
