Egerton University has established a Records Management and Archives Centre to appraise records and preserve institutional archival materials.
The centre that is under the library department of the university will also provide guidelines on filing systems to other departments of the university.
According to William Muruku the in-charge of the centre, the university management last year had noted with concern the importance of having an institutional repository centre to collectively manage and provide guidelines on records management at the university with special interests on academic and administrative records.
“The university management mandated the university librarian to institute a team that would come up with a records and archives management programme for the university. This programme will ensure that important records from all departments of the university are appraised, preserved and retrieved,” he said.
The centre is located at the basement of the faculty of education and community studies complex basement at the Njoro main campus.
