Members of staff at Egerton University have been encouraged to join welfare groups within the work place and in the community in order to strength their social status.
Speaking when she presided over Egerton University Library Staff Welfare Group’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the university's auditorium Wednesday afternoon, university librarian Jane Rose Kinyanjui said that welfare groups are fast becoming credible socio-economic umbrellas for most Kenyans hence the need to join.
“Though it is not mandatory to join social groups, there are immense benefits that come with being of part of the groups. I encourage staff members to join or form welfare groups to enrich their socio-economic status,” she said.
The librarian told the group to endeavour for excellence as a social group by coming up with innovative ideas that will make them a symbol of success in the university.
She observed that welfare groups have the potential of transforming members' social and economic status as well as career ambitions as they share resources and life experiences.
The library welfare group has over 70 members drawn from the library departments of Egerton University’s campuses across the country.
