A third year student at Egerton University hanged himself after he allegedly lost his tuition fee to football betting.
The body of the student was found Monday morning dangling at the pavilion grounds.
According to students privy to the incident, the student had allegedly placed a Sh40,000 bet over the weekend. He failed to win anything in return.
Friends believe the loss prompted him to take away his life.
Students and dons at the varsity woke to a sombre mood after members of a prayer group stumbled upon the body early Monday morning.
The body was taken to the County hospital mortuary as police launch investigations.
University students have been risking their fee to football betting turning unfortunate.
The institution, however, did not give an official communication over the incident.
Police said investigations will unravel cause of the death.
