The six men and two women were arrested at the Nyambari shopping centre in Lari constituency for the offence of drinking alcohol and thereafter making noise and disturbing the peace of other people.

They were kept in police custody at the Uplands police station in Lari before being arraigned at the Limuru law courts on Monday.

The suspects appeared before Limuru resident principal magistrate GH Oduor where they all pleaded guilty to the charges of drinking and making noise.

As a repercussion of their conduct, the magistrate sentenced the eight to a full day of community service at the Uplands police station.

“Following your plea of guilty, I sentence you to a day of working at the Uplands police station,” said Oduor.

The eight would be expected to sweep, slash, wash and clean the police station and do other menial jobs in the security facility.

As they stood in the courtroom, the eight were seemingly unkempt with their hair uncombed and dirty clothes.

There were many cases similar to this one that were presented in court, and this was said to be a common occurrence on Mondays after a weekend when people drink too much.
