Several governors from both the ODM and Jubilee Party have expressed interest of defending their seats on the Chama Cha Mashinani ticket, a senior party official has revealed.
Mashinani party which associated with Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto did not join the newly formed Jubilee Party despite its roots being in Deputy President William Ruto’s Rift Valley stronghold.
And Crispin Abuga, a close confident on Governor Ruto and a coordinator for Nyanza region on Thursday said a number of governors have shown interest in joining the party.
“The Mashinani party is growing and we are expecting more defections in the near future. Many governors from both Jubilee and Cord strongholds have shown interest in joining the party,” he said.
“I may not mention them but I am aware of eight who have expressed their dissatisfaction on how their respective parties are being run. Some of them do not want to be subjected to party primaries,” added Abuga.
According to him, the party hopping clause has contributed immensely towards the popularity of the party in both the Rift Valley and Nyanza regions.
“My own analysis shows that party hopping was key towards that. many of these Governors blames their respective parties of having preferred candidates and that is why none is ready to be locked out based on party hoping clause,” he said.
