The ambulance was taking two patients to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) at the time of the accident.

The ambulance driver, identified as Silas, said he lost control after overtaking a truck, before rolling three times.

The eight victims were taken to Ahero County Hospital, but seven of them were referred to JOOTRH for specialised treatment.

Confirming the Tuesday  incident, Ahero County Hospital administrator Joshua Maganga said one of the patients in the ambulance was a student who was accompanied by three relatives.

"We have very scanty information as at now because the patients have sustained injuries requiring urgent medical attention. What I have got so far is that the girl who was among the patients was being accompanied by close relatives," said Maganga, as quoted by Standard.
