Eight people were seriously injured in a road accident along Nairobi - Namanga Road in Athi River town on Monday morning.
Athi River base commander Moses Kimeli confirmed the accident that occurred after a bus belonging to Holidays Tours Ltd engaged in head-on collision with a water tanker few meters from Savannah Cement Company.
Speaking to Star at the scene, the bus driver Samuel Bosire said he was ferrying 61 employees of Evergreen Flower Company Ltd from Kitengela to work when the incident happened at 5.00am.
Bosire said the tanker was moving from opposite direction.
He said a boda boda operator caused the accident.
“A boda boda operator attempted to overtake a lorry and car before he was hit by the oncoming tanker, the tanker then rammed into the bus I was driving pushing it into a ditch by the road side,” said Bosire.
The eight who got seriously injured include the water tanker’s driver, turn boy, boda-boda rider and bus passengers.
Several passengers who sustained minor injuries including the driver were treated at Shalom Community Hospital and discharged.
The vehicles were towed to Athi River Police Station.
