Eight people have been confirmed dead while several others are fighting for their lives in Kisii hospitals after a grisly accident along the Kisii-Keroka highway Saturday midday.

Confirming the incident, Kisii Central OCS John Wamocha said the driver of the ill-fated Nissan Matatu that was heading to Kisii lost control near Kisii High hitting a Probox before crashing into oncoming motorbikes causing six instant deaths.

“The matatu first hit a Probox then the three motorbikes before it veered off the road killing a pedestrian. Six people lost their lives on the spot while two others have just died while receiving treatment. Several are fighting for their lives in hospitals,” Wamocha confirmed.

He added that among the eight who died, some were parents who were going to visit their children at Kisii High.

“It was visiting day at Kisii High and some of the deceased are parents who were going to visit their children.”

According to Wamocha, the driver of the Matatu belonging to Amotak Co. Ltd was speeding causing the breaks to fail.

“There is no doubt that the driver of the Matatu was speeding and when he tried to break, it failed, consequently causing the accident.

The accident also involved a personal vehicle, of a parent who was heading to Kisii High to visit her child.
