Eight prison warders have been suspended from duty, after four capital offence inmates escaped from the Kibos main Prison in Kisumu County.
According to Nyanza Region Prisons Commandant Amos Misik, the eight officers have been interdicted in order to allow for investigations into the prison break.
Misik said that following preliminary investigations, the officer who was on duty during the Thursday incident was among the first warders to be suspended on Friday.
Kisumu County Police Commandant Titus Yoma had already confirmed that a team of officers had been dispatched to search for the inmates who were serving murder and defilement sentences.
"We have dispatched a team that is pursuing the inmates to bring them back to where they belong,”said Yoma while addressing the press.
The four who escaped from prison are: Douglas Onyancha, Kennedy Wesonga, Keneth Lekesho and Salim Sifuna.
The inmates escaped on Thursday night by cutting the window grills of their cell, before climbing over the five meter-high prison perimeter wall using blankets and sheets.
