An eight-year-old girl who is said to have been locked and forced to eat inside a toilet in Eldoret by her parents has been rescued.
The girls are said to have been licked in the toilet by her stepmother and father after she failed to perform her household duties as instructed neighbors said on Tuesday.
She is now admitted at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret after she sustained injuries following the beating she received from the parents before being locked in the toilet.
Neighbors and human rights activist Nick Omito on Tuesday stormed the girl's home and rescued her after spending 24 hours in the latrine.
According to the neighbors, the girl had been attending school in the neighborhood before she was forced to drop out to work as a family help when her parents were away. The parents are said to be running a second-hand clothes business in a trading center near their home at Khaoya Estate.
Omito promised to take legal action against the girl's parents who he accused of violating the young girl's right. He said it was wrong for the two adults to force the girl out of school well knowing she has the right to education.
"That was inhuman, it is unacceptable. We will present a case to the police and have them arrested," Omito said.
The girl's parents are yet to be arrested.
