Aukot emerged third in the annuled August 8 race, appearing behind President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga in that order, before holding a distant second position in the repeat contest following Odinga's withdrawal.

In an interview on Radio Citizen Wednesday morning, Aukot accused Kenyans of voting on tribal lines and therefore, sidelining him and his list of vows and manifesto, attributing his defeat in both races to his hailing from a minority ethnic community.

''The only reason why I lost both elections is because Kenyans refused to look at my manifesto and the good leadership I was offering and instead opted for ethnic affiliations and other qualities that will not change anything in our leadership system,'' he said.

He noted that the decisison has since began haunting them, citing current national shortcomings including maize farmers' woes and the slow economic growth.

''Kenyans commited a big mistake by failing to choose leaders based on their leadership qualities hence the current challenges facing them including the ongoing tussle between state and maize farmers over delayed payment and other national shortcomings,'' he added.
