Speaking on Radio Citizen Sunday, Elachi said that despite being aimed at enhancing national cohesion, the newfound friendship has as well rescued leaders deemed rebels and political traitors from regular attacks.

The former nominated Senator revealed having been subjected to bashing by her fellow politicians and Kenyans over her move to vie for the Dagoretti North parliamentary seat on a Jubilee Party ticket, despite being from the Western part of the country, in the concluded polls.

''Some of us were subjected to insults and accused of betrayal for joining and vying on the Jubilee Party despite coming from the opposition regions,'' she said.

''The golden handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga has, however, rescued us as we have regained our respect and are once again considered important members of the society,'' she added.

The two leaders pledged their willingness to collaborate in pursuit of national cohesion on March 9.

However, despite being heavily hailed nationally, the unity has as well been opposed by a section of leaders, especially from Odinga's National Super Alliance (NASA) bloc.
