Garissa locals wishing to travel by air will now comfortably do so, after the launch of the first flight in the area.
The Freedom Airlines have become the first airline to carry start journeys to the Northeastern County, launching their first flights on Sunday.
The airline will now have scheduled flights on Mondays and Fridays at a cost of Sh5,000 per passenger.
Air travel will be a relief for the passengers, who have to endure a six-hour journey by bus with no proper roads.
Insecurity is another issue that the locals have to live with as they travel, and are forced to at times hire security services.
According to the airline manager, plans are underway to initiate daily flights as the government intends to have daily flights.
“We really needed this, as leaders here, it was expensive to use your own car and. This is cheaper, comfortable and easy to use. In the next six months we will have a working airport to help ease transport issues,” said one of the leaders.
The locals expressed their pleasure in having the airline, saying it will help them even in their business.
