Area Chief Kamau Mungai who confirmed the incident and identified the man as Mwangi Gachobe said he had been found locked in the house after the fire was put out.

“We have not established why he set himself ablaze inside the house,” said Mungai.

He appealed to the youths to avoid drug abuse to reduce such cases in the region.

Elburgon MCA Florence Wambui who arrived at the scene appealed to residents and other well-wishers to help the affected families with food, shelter and clothing.

"It is bad to see these families suffering because of the action of the deceased. I appeal to the Nakuru County Government and other well-wishers to come to their rescue and enable them to move on," said Wambui.

The MCA further asked the county government to provide the area with a fire extinguisher truck to handle such emergencies.

"Fire extinguisher truck is expensive but I believe that is the only solution for Elburgon town when it comes to fire disaster management," she said.
