An elderly couple has been killed and their property destroyed in Mobamba village, Bonyamatuta location, Nyamira County in a suspected revenge attack.
The couple's daughter who was also reportedly targeted in the attack escaped the killers’ trap, but her school and college certificates went up in flames.
Witnesses said the attackers in the Saturday night incident forced 60-year-old Geke Okeri and his wife, Milka, 52 , to drink sulfuric acid before setting them a blaze.
The attackers also burnt their permanent house and destroyed their banana farm and trees in an incident that has left residents and security agents petrified.
Their daughter, Irene Kerubo who works with the Nyamira County Government claimed the family had received threats and she was in hiding when she was called last night that her parents had been killed.
The attackers, according to security agencies, were revenging an incident where Milka reported a relative to the police leading to his arrest.
The arrested relative is said to have died soon after he was released from custody.
Bonyamatuta chief Alfred Aenda said it is suspected the attackers were on a revenge mission, and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
Nyamira South OCPD Rico Ngare said preliminary investigations show the incident was as a result of a protracted family dispute.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary.
Incidents of gangs attacking residents, forcing them to drink acid before torching them are on the rise.
Last month, a couple fell into a similar fate in Matongo, Nyamira North sub-county.
