The whereabouts of an elderly couple remain unknown after heavy rains pounded Marsabit.
According to a local daily, the couple, Jillo Korme and his wife Shake are feared dead after floods caused havoc in different parts of the county.It is speculated that they man and wife died after being swept away by floods in their hut at North Horr on Monday.Speaking to the press, area deputy county commissioner Victor Omondi said the banks of Rivers Balesa Bura and Arillo had burst thereby paralyzing transport services to different areas. He also said that a team of 31 divers has embarked on searching for the bodies of the victims of the floods. Omondi also revealed that the government has plans to supply the residents with relief foods as they struggle to come to reality with the massive losses they have suffered because of the floods in the area.“There are plans to supply relief food by air because roads are impassable,” Omondi said, as quoted by The Star.Maikona MCA Buke Diba said that the floods have led to pain and suffering in the region, adding that residents are now fleeing to safer areas. He also noted that Olom is one of the worst affected areas following the heavy downpour.
