An elderly clique has called upon the Governor of Machakos County Dr. Alfred Mutua to put effort in ensuring recognition of the heroes of Machakos County.
Speaking during a baraza in Matuu town in Yatta Sub-County on Wednesday, the wazee stated that Kenyan heroes are recognized in different Counties and the same should be done in Machakos County as a way of appreciating the efforts of the heroes.
The chairman of the wazee Baraza in Matuu James Musyoka lamented over the forgotten heroes who have made remarkable history.
“It is very sad that we have our own heroes like Kisoi wa Munyao, Muindi Mbingu and Paul Ngei who put our society on the map of Africa and we have forgotten them,” said Musyoka.
He further stated instead there should be streets named after them and portraits as a show of appreciation.
“Our governor should put into consideration naming streets in our County after our heroes. Portraits are also a significant figure to be put up as a remembrance of their hard work in the past that is still felt up to date,” he added.
Kisoi Munyao is a re-Known hero for raising the National flag on Mt.Kenya for the first time while Paul Ngei and Muindi Mbingu fought for Kenya’s independence together with other Kenyans.
The elderly men also called upon the other governors from Eastern areas including Kitui and Makueni to put into consideration the same.
