Njomo said that the money will help the elderly in upbringing of the children who have become a ‘burden' to them.

"We are grateful to the government for this plan. Some of these children are very young while their grandparents are very old and they need our support. Money meant for the elderly people should benefit them indiscriminately,” said Njomo.

Njomo said that the government is committed to better the future of children in the country and it will continue supporting them in many ways.

Those who received the money could not hide their joy, saying that they are grateful to the government for coming up with such initiative which , according to them would in a way help them live without much stress always associated with poverty.

"With the little money I have received I can now start a small business that will keep me going with my grandchildren,” said Paul Nduati, one of the elderly persons living with orphans in the area.

They said that they have been in abject poverty for long and the government's financial help will play a big role in positively transforming their lives and those of the orphans they live with.

"We are a burden to ourselves and having these children with us again, makes the situation more worse for us,” said Mary Wamuyu 78.
