The man, who was reportedly asleep when the fire broke out, was burnt beyond recognition in the late night inferno that has left many puzzled. The Sunday fire left at least 47 people homeless.

The affected families are calling on people of good will to assist them with basic needs.

Lucy Wacuka, daughter to the deceased, said his father was deep asleep and efforts to rescue him from the inferno turned futile because he had closed his house from inside.

She said nothing was salvaged from their house but a few neighbours managed to secure some of their belongings.

Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua, Molo MP Jacob Macharia and Kenya Red Cross officials arrived at the scene and donated household items to the 15 affected families.

Mbugua said poor planning of major towns was hampering development and response to disasters.

He said all kiosks on road reserves will be pulled down to allow for road upgrading. He added that the county government will purchase firefighting engines for each sub-county to enable quick response in case of fire accidents.
