The old man has been identified as Mutunga Muia who is employed at a residential home in Kivuiya village to graze livestock.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday morning, Masinga police OCPD Joel Kiptum stated that the man was reported missing by his family on Sunday night after he failed to return home in the evening like always.

Kiptum has stated that the police officers from Masinga launched a search since Monday morning only to find his body lying without any injuries on Monday around 10am.

“Police have been searching and investigating after residents stated he was last seen on Sunday evening very drunk. We have found his body in a ditch that is a dried river and suspect he might have lost control and fallen as it is besides a path,” said Kiptum.

It is suspected he lost his way as he was too drunk and fell in the ditch which is near the deserted path, a short way to his employer’s home as his body had no injuries.

His walking stick and an empty liquor plastic bottle lay besides him.

When contacted his employer stated that she had given him a day off on Sunday and paid him his weekly dues.

The body of Muia has been taken by Masinga police officers to Mediance mortuary in Matuu which was previously Matuu nursing home where a post mortem will be carried out.
