More than 700 elderly people from Limuru Constituency have benefited from the government’s cash transfer programme meant to support them.
Each beneficiary received Sh 4,000.
They said that they had been waiting for the money for long and were now happy to get it, which according to them, came as a Christmas gift.
"I am very happy and grateful to the government for making this happen. We have been patiently waiting for this moment and our patience has finally paid us,” said Esther Njambi, 75.
Speaking while giving out the money, area MP John Kiragu said that those were just some of the steps that the government is taking to improve the livelihoods of its people.
"Under Jubilee government, we have very many ambitious plans for our people and we want to ensure that everything is delivered before our term is over,” said Kiragu.
The elderly who came from various wards within the constituency, asked the government to be in full control of the fund to ensure that it was not infiltrated by some corrupt people whom, according to them, were out to enrich themselves.
