Nearly 350 elderly people living in a center for destitute have a reason to smile this Christmas after they received alms from well-wishers.
The elders living at Noble Charity Homes for Destitute (NCHD) in Kisumu’s Kibos area will be donated foodstuff, bedding, healthcare, utensils among other things.
Omega Foundation, a non-governmental organization will steer the charity event in which they have asked other well-wishers to contribute.
The dwelling homes mostly widows and widowers who in one way or another were affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
It also homes vulnerable children orphaned by the scourge.
“We are looking for donations towards bringing smiles and bridging some of challenges the centre experiences in its efforts to reach these communities. We appeal for these basic items that have been identified to be urgently required at the home,” said Rose Waringa for the CEO Thursday.
She said that in Kajulu and kolwa, there were 350 vulnerable old persons who are taking care of 370 orphans and needed aid.
“Among them, there are those who have homes while others lack any form of shelter. The old persons are struggling with psychological trauma having seen their sons/daughters die a slow painful death with HIV/AIDS in the early days when drugs were not available and had to step in as guardians to their grandchildren orphaned by this demise,” she said.
The alms will be delivered to the home on Friday.
