The elderly have been warned against misusing the monthly elderly fund of Sh2000 per person set aside for them by the national government.

Nakuru East Deputy County Commissioner Omar Hajj Salat said a section of elderly are now using the fund on illicit brew.

He warned that such is an abuse of government policy and issued a one month ultimatum for such to stop lest they face the severe arm of the law.

“We are sending a warning to the elderly who are using the funds on illicit brew that they have one month to stop such or face the law,” said Salat.

The Nakuru East DCC called on local chiefs and assistant chiefs to submit the list of elderly who will be arrested while drunk so that their names can be removed from the list of beneficiaries of the fund.

While noting that he had received reports from the public of elderly who are using the funds on illicit brew, the DCC appealed to such individuals to surrender themselves to the government so that they can be helped.

“Of course yes we have received such reports from the public and we are calling on those elderly involved in such to ensure they surrender to the government so that they can be helped,” he said.

The Deputy county commissioner also called on residents to continue reporting such cases to the security agents so that action can be taken. He spoke during an exclusive interview in his office.
