A group of elders and youth in Kesses met under outside Moi University's administration block on Thursday evening to perform a ritual following the murder of one of them. The deceased allegedly got into a fight with the university's student at a local market and was stabbed to death despite efforts to treat him at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. The student whose identity is yet to be revealed is said to have disappeared after the incident. Their gathering at the university prompted the administration to call the police for security since they are said not to have informed the school about their ritual. They demanded to be addressed by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban Ayiro who did not show up.
The incident followed increased cases of mugging at the institution. A week ago, a student was robbed between Cheross and Blue Gate hostels on his way to his room from school. Another incidence happened at Ngeria hostels early this week where a female student was robbed, losing her phone and other essentials.
