The elders said that it is important for the government to start campaigns that will preach among Kenyans across the country.

Speaking to HiviSaSa.Com on Thursday, the elders noted that unity is needed for the country to conduct a peaceful general election.

“The government should start campaigns that will bring Kenyans together as we head to the 2017 general elections,” said James Kimani, an elder.

Mr Kimani said that the country’s development agenda will be realized if there is peace and unity among Kenyans and their leaders.

The elders at the same time lauded the International Criminal Court (ICC) for dropping crimes against humanity that were facing deputy president William Ruto and radio journalist Joshua Sang.

The elders said that the ICC cases had been politicized and that the decision by the Trial Chamber judges to terminate the case was just.

“The ICC cases had been turned into a political scheme and we welcome the decision by the court to end the cases,” said James Mburu, an elder.

The elders however urged the government to compensate victims of the 2007/2008 post election violence.

The elders said that this will ensure that such violence does not happen again.

On Tuesday the ICC Trial Chamber bench judges declared case against Ruto and sang a mistrial. The judges dismissed the charges of crime against humanity arguing that the prosecution had failed to convict the suspects.

Judges Chile Eboe-Osuji and Robert Fremr dismissed the evidence presented by Prosecutor Fatou Bensuda. The judges however allowed the prosecution to bring fresh charges against the two if it gets new evidence.
