Elders in Teachers estate in Nakuru East are demanding for the expansion of a local police post into a police station in order to curb crime and maintain law and order in the area.
The Chairman of security matters committee of Teachers Estate Paul Ogega in a petition letter addressed to Nakuru Sub-county Security Committee says the Teachers Police Post lacks enough facilities to address security and other law enforcement matters in the area, and wants it to be expanded into a fully-fledged police station.
According to Ogega, there is a need to expand police services in the area to cater for the growing population and business activities in the area.
He observed that the high rate of criminal activities and other lawlessness incidences in the area is an indicator for a need to elevate the police post to a police station that will be equipped with enough police officers and machinery to stir up law enforcement.
“We as elders and original occupants of this area, we realise that there is an urgent need to elevate Teachers Police Post to police station,” said Ogega.
“We observe that population pressure and expanding business activities have had a big impact to security matters and hence a need to address it,’’ said the elder partly in the letter they availed a copy to this reporter,” added Ogega.
According to the elders, the police post lacks enough police officers and security machinery including a patrol vehicle to reinforce security, a fact that has made the area prone to crime and other insecurity matters.
They believe that the elevation of the police post to a police station will solve the insecurity problem.
