The Kikuyu Council of Elders (KCE) has dismissed allegations that it has advised President Uhuru Kenyatta to drop his deputy William Ruto before the August 8 general elections.
Rift Valley branch coordinator, James Nene told the Star that the claims were based on 'misinformation and falsehoods', saying the elders are championing for unity between the two Jubilee leaders.
“It is the prerogative of the president to choose his deputy. We have never requested President Uhuru to drop his deputy for any reason whatsoever and believes they are a winning combination,” said Nene.
He was responding to claims made last week by the Rift Valley Council of Elders patron Gilbert Kabage who said Kikuyu elders had appealed to the President to drop Ruto as his running mate in the August polls.
Kabage had also dismissed KCE as a tribal outfit which should not be allowed to conduct its activities in the region as it was being used by the “Central Kenya mafia” to cause disunity among the residents ahead of the elections.
Nene said KCE will continue with its activities in Rift Valley to ensure peace and unity prevail among the 42 communities residing in the populous region.
