A meeting that lasted over four hours at a Garissa hotel did not bear fruits after the elders came out with contradicting verdicts.

At the first glance, the elders appeared to have agreed on the right candidate they were going to back in August, but when they started addressing journalists, each had his side of story.

Ibrahim Hassan Ali, popularly known as Warabow and Siyad Nur Issack alleged that they had reached a consensus to snub governor Nathif Jama, arguing that he had failed to keep his pre-election promises.

They said that health crisis, drought and floods are among the issues that Jama’s government had failed to address, adding that he does not deserve another term in office when that time comes.

“In 2014 there were floods in Lagdera [and] the governor did not come for our assistance. Our hospitals have been closed due to lack of (doctors)," said Siyad Nur as quoted by Nation.

He added: “Currently, drought is wiping out livestock and nothing has been done by the governor or (the) county administration. That is why we are withdrawing our support,”.

Before they were through, Abdikadir Shakur appeared with a different story. He downplayed allegations that they had agreed to withdraw their support from Jama or any other candidate eyeing the governorship seat in the August polls.

“We have not agreed to withdraw support for anybody, that is not what we have discussed,” said Shakur.
