Led by Daniel Matelong, they said the process was undemocratic and meant to lock potential candidates out of the race.

"Uasin Gishu County is a cosmopolitan region with 42 tribes and we won't allow some few individuals to divide positions among themselves in the name of consensus. We don't support such proposals," they said during a press briefing on Wednesday at Kenmosa Eldoret town.

They added, "It's only God who knows, anoints and chooses leaders and not some few self centred individuals propelled by their stomachs and backed by some politicians for their sake."

They reiterated the elders did not consult them before coming up with such proposals.

"On whose behalf were they talking? We think it's for their own behalf since they don't represent Kalenjins," they said.

"The mandate of Myot elders is to unite Kalenjins and not dividing them by taking political sides."

Meanwhile, Uasin Gishu County Council of Imams and Muslim preachers Abubakar Bini also dismissed the formula, saying it will encourage tribalism and division among the Kalenjin community.

"Whom did the elders consult before coning up with the formula? This is wrong since the constitution allows Kenyans to choose their preferred candidates," said Bini.

This comes after the Myot elders came with a proposal that they want the governor to come from the northern part of the county, Senator from the East and Women representative from South.
