The Orkila Orok Maasai Council of Elders has endorsed Kajiado South MP Katoo ole Metito as community spokesman.
The elders, led by secretary Samson ole Rotiken said Metito will be the interim community spokesman for members in Narok, Kajiado, Samburu and Laikipia counties, as he has been approved by the community.
“We have done our groundwork from the family and community background and found that Metito is the best for the position. He is young, barely 43 years, and will grow into the position,” Rotiken said.
Earlier in October, a group of Maasai professionals fronted Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery to be the community’s spokesman.
The new spokesman succeeds former Heritage minister William ole Ntimama
Ntimama died at his Melili home on September 1.
