Funyula Member of Parliament Paul Otuoma has received a major boost for his gubernatorial bid. This is after Samia council of elders endorsed him to run as an Independent candidate in Busia governorship race.
The elders blamed the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party of conducting shambolic primaries that saw Otuoma rigged out leading to his resignation from the party.
Led by their chair Dickson Malo, the elders refuted claims that the Luhya community in the region is tribal.
“We are shocked to hear some people saying that Luhyas are tribal and yet in 2013 we overwhelmingly voted for Hon. Ojamoong’ knowing very well that he was a Teso,” said Malo.
The heads noted their move to support Otuoma was because the current governor, Sospeter Ojamoong’ had done little for the county.
“Four years down the line the governor has done little and Busia is lagging behind in terms of development.”
