Ukambani Council of elders have declared their support for President Uhuru Kenyatta in the fresh elections to be held on October 26.
The elders who were led by their Chairman Boniface Kilonzo were speaking in Machakos Town on Thursday saying that the community has greatly benefited from the Jubilee government and hence they had a reason to support Uhuru’s re-election."Our counties had no roads which were passable but now we have them. Jubilee government has greatly improved our areas despite us being in opposition," said Kilonzo. The elders also accused NASA supporters of being behind demonstrations that had resulted in disruption of businesses, loss of life and property. They further accused NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga of being selfish and wanting to acquire power by any means. According to Kilonzo, the NASA demonstrations are part of the economic sabotage scheme to frustrate the government. The elders called Kalonzo Musyoka to work with Uhuru Kenyatta for the common interest of the people of Ukambani. The Ukambani council of elders in July appointed Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko as a Kamba elder and their spokesperson. In the last few months, many opposition leaders have joined Jubilee such as Busia Governor aspirant Paul Otuoma, former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, David Nkedianye and Moses Akaranga among other leaders who have decamped.President Kenyatta is expected to tour the Ukambani region, Kitui and Machakos County on Monday next week.
