In a press conference, the elders led by their chairman James Matundura said that the decision to include a member of the community in the group was clear indication that the community was not left behind by both sides.

"I congratulate President Kenyatta and Nasa leader for the appointments and we assure them that we shall ensure that their messages are delivered," he said.

According to Mr Matundura, their longterm experience in leadership roles will be of great benefit to the team that has been tasked with ensuring that Kenyans are united.

They are also tasked with ensuring that Kenyans forget about last year's divisive politics.

"I assure the president and Mr Odinga that they will not regret having me on the team. Ours will be to ensure that Kenya is peaceful until 2022 comes," he said.

He asked Gusii leaders to help the two top leaders in the country to set their development agenda.
