A section of elders from Garissa County now want president Uhuru Kenyatta to initiate dialogue with NASA leader Raila Odinga to save the country from plunging into acts of lawlessness.
Addressing the press in Garissa town, the elders, led by Kenya livestock marketing council chair Dubat Amey, regretted that the current political tension generated by the just concluded presidential polls had split the country along tribal and political lines.
Amey said the direction the country is taking ‘is very dangerous’ and urged the president not to allow Jubilee hardliners and ‘militants’ to override his humbleness.
“Building this country took a lot of time but destroying it will not take more than three days. When you were sworn in you were given a sword that signifies authority. The future of this country rests in your hands. Please call for dialogue with Raila,” Amey said.
“You have the wisdom and energy to do that. You are a humble man and we have trust in you. Please save country,” he added.
Amey also asked the NASA leader to desist from act that may destroy the country because he has not been elected president.
He accused Raila for transforming NASA into a resistance movement setting a precedent for ‘total defiance, chaos and violence. Please Raila don’t put this country into problems’.
