Speaking yesterday after meeting area chief for an urgent security meeting, the elders asked that police officers be deployed in the area to combat rising insecurity.

“Since the matter is getting out of control, it will be humanistic if the government deploys police officers to combat these incidents,” said Kerauni Manwa, on behalf of other elders.

He said the proximity of the area to troubled Borabu-Sotik border has precipitated rampant cattle rustling that has seen more than 50 herds of cattle stolen.

“They [bandits] have taken advantage of the border to vandalise our properties. Many farmers are incurring huge losses due to this primitive and archaic act,” he said.

He vindicated youths from the neighbouring community and accused members of Abagusii community for hiding in the community and exploiting themselves and eventually blaming their peaceful Kipsigis neighbours.

“Our neighbours have nothing to do with this. These are our people who are exploiting us and hiding in the name of over Kispisigis neighbours,” he said.

They called for expeditious investigation to about five recent mysterious deaths and subsequent apprehension of perpetrators.
