Speaking at a political meeting held in Isiolo town, the elders said those who are demanding for political endorsement should forget about such deals, saying its only fair for all candidates to get a fair chance.

"We are not ready for endorsement in this year's elections. We want aspirants to try their luck and move forward together," they said.

They said endorsing certain candidates ahead of the August elections will block several aspirants from vying for different seats, and that will create hate and disunity among the people.

"We want to witness free and fair elections. We don't want to block others from contesting in the elections. This will definitely create hate and the community will be divided," said Hassan Wachu.

Galgalo Halakhe, an elder, called on the government to investigate and arrest all those who are said to be promoting ethnicity among the communities in the region.

"We want peace. We don't want violence and let the government take tough actions against those planning to disrupt the unity of the community," said Galgalo.
