Estate Council of Elders Chairman Andrew Keiru on Tuesday asked area MCA Michael Macharia to keep off market construction and roads repair projects currently being spearheaded by the council.

“We as a community resolved to develop this market and mobilise our youth to repair roads and drainage tunnels after the government let us down. For many years, the market project has stalled while our roads are in poor conditions due to negligence by elected leaders. We wonder why they are now trying to interfere with us,” said Keiru.

He said that the Teachers Market Project that was started in 2005 stalled after a contractor who was allied to the then area Councillor Joseph Mithamo failed to complete the work while the road network in the area has been unable to receive a facelift from the county government despite of numerous petitions directed to the government and elected leaders.

Keiru said the council of elders that is mandated to manage public interests and projects in the area had resolved to initiate the two projects to promote economic activity and security in the area.
