Elders drawn from South Mugirango have threatened to disown Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati for opposing construction of Nyangweta sugar factory.
Led by Erastus Ongubo, who is former Civic leader, the elders said at the rate the MP is mobilising locals the project may take longer or the investors may back out of the project.
"Arati should stick to the role he was given as the Community spokesperson and he should champion for unity and development.
"We are in a deep shock that he is the one leading other locals to oppose the project and we as elders we will disown him if he continues," said Ongubo at a press conference in Kisii.
The elders further applauded Governor James Ongwae for his effort to push for the project and called upon other leaders from the area to give him ehand on the same.
In his recent remarks the MP said there are many other sugar factories around kisii such as sony where the cane farmers can sell their sugarcane too.
The five billion so far haven't got a greenlight for its construction from the ministry of environment as well as from the Senate.
