Led by Dubat Hamey, the elders want the newly elected governor to crack the whip on employees who were linked to graft in the previous government led by former governor Nathif Jama
The elders claim that billions of public money was allegedly misappropriated under Jama's rule.
“Our appeal is to our newly elected governor Korane to deal firmly with corruption and ensure those implicated are prosecuted,” Hamey said as quoted by the Star.
The elders said that they will work with the governor to ensure that corruption is dealt with accordingly.
The Garissa elders also urged governor Korane to unite the people especially the many clans in the county.
They said that there is disunity among the clans and non-somalis living in the county. “Unity is our main concern and we want to ask Korane to reach out to all the clans and the various communities for peaceful co-existence,” said Hamey.
The elders urged all elected leaders in the county to work together for development. They said that locals endorsed the right leaders in the recently concluded polls and that they should settle down to work and deliver on the promises they made to residents.
Governor Korane won the governor seat beating former governor Nathif Jama.
The Jubilee governor says that he will not disappoint residents assuring them of his commitment to deliver on the pledges he made to them during the campaigns.
